background / biography
From funk to groove, rock to metal, from salsa to jazz to the blues, Papashake members have played it all...the spectrum of influences are evident in the music.
Papashake hails from Washington, DC; the band has been around for five years in various forms, but the band's current musical direction and style was decided upon in the late summer of 2003. After a stretch where it seemed like semi-annual musical and line-up changes, Kobie Ali (along with mainstay guitarist / superstar Rob Portillo) believes he has finally found the perfect musicians for his long-term vision. "These guys will take the 'shake to the next level," affirms Kobie proudly. Jon Weed (bass) and Chris Murry (drums) the two newest members of the group were recruited from other DC-based bands; Jon began his 'shake career after sitting in at one of Kobie's acoustic shows in July (2003), and Chris signed on in '05 shortly after the release of Papashake's latest CD Dirty Little Secrets.
The goal at the moment is spread the word about Papashake, states bassist Jon Weed. Touring and playing live is their chosen method of exposure. The band will be performing up and down the East Coast, into the South and Midwest in 2005 2006. After successful tours in 2004 supporting The Horse is in the Pool ep, the band is gearing up to hit the road again, this time with a full length CD Dirty Little Secrets in hand (HRE Records release date 7-05).
